Adult Education / GED Program

The Family Support Center’s Adult Education Program is committed to helping individuals achieve their academic goals. The Program seeks to provide educational services to those individuals 17 years of age or older who have not earned a High School Diploma or equivalency. Program goals focus on helping individuals obtain a GED, General Education Development, obtain and retain employment, enter Post Secondary or Higher Educational Institutions and/or improve literacy skills.

Adult Education Program includes:

•Adult Basic Education

•General Education Development – GED (9th grade and above level)

•English as a Second Language – ESL for Non-English speakers

•GED Online – Work at home on your GED

•WorkKeys testing and preparation – Career Readiness Certificate


Individuals earning their GED are eligible for one (1) free course at a public 2 year college in the State of Alabama.


To Enroll: An individual must be at least 17 years old and not currently enrolled in a K-12 school. Students under the age of 18 must have a written withdrawal from the last school attended, an Exit Interview form as well as a notarized letter from a parent / Legal Guardian stating permission to enroll in the Adult Ed Classes. Students must register at the main FSC site at 113 W. Main St. and provide an Alabama Photo ID and Social Security Card. Students will be directed to their selected class with a copy of the intake form as admission to the class. The instructor will provide an orientation to the class which includes taking a locator test, filling out forms, and learning class rules and expectations.
